Programme Definitions

The weekend begins with a ritual opening ceremony. Gathering in a circle, we create a sacred space for all that occurs over the weekend. In the circle no one is higher or lower than any other: we are together as a temporary community, and can feel safe to open our hearts and minds to new experiences and growth.

The opening ritual is different each year, but usually involves purification with smoke (smudging with sage) before entering the circle, followed by calling in the elements (earth, water, air, fire), the powers of the above (heavens), below (earth) and centre; inviting the goddess or divine feminine by her many names to join us and work with us. There might also be drumming, chanting, movement, circle dance.

The opening ceremony may take place outdoors or inside. Please be prepared for weather, midges, movement. You might want to bring a drum, rattle, small percussion, musical instrument or a colourful scarf.

There will be a closing ritual at the end of the weekend to thank and release the elements, goddesses, etc, and to ensure we are all grounded and safe to travel home.

Drawing on the theme for the weekend, this project aims to bring together the creative energies of all of the women present.   We may us a varietyof mediums such as fabric, plant matter, paper, feathers, ribbons, each woman is asked to contribute her expression, her experience of the weekend.   Each participant is invited to enter into the process and to have a bit of fun contributing to the design.  This collective project becomes a concrete representation of all that is hoped for on the weekend.

For 2018, with Weaving a Welcome Home as our theme, the collaboration explores  how plants and gardens play a role in welcoming guests to our  to our homes.

Community space is free space. It might be time to sit down quietly to unwind and reflect, catch your breath, get a cuppa, put your feet up, process what's been happening. Or it could be social time - use it for networking, meeting old friends, catching up with news and debriefing with women from your workshop.

Each year one elder woman is invited to share her life's wisdom with us on the Sunday afternoon. This year our elder Bee Smith has chosen to share her wisdom and insight with us regarding the future of  Wise Woman Weekend.

Previous elder talks have been given by:  Claire Louise Knifton(2017) Bettina Peterseil (2016) Amantha Murphy (2015) Noirin ni Riain (2014); Ruth Marshall (2013); Jan McEvoy (2012); Judith Hoad (2011)

Bingo with a difference a cross between a quiz and a bingo game with prizes and plenty of craic.

The Wild Woman Social and cabaret  is an opportunity to dress up as the goddess you truly are and share your talents with a supportive and friendly audience in a cabaret style setting. You might perform something you prepared in advance - or perhaps you get to together with new friends to entertain us at the open mike. At previous events we have been entertained with stunning poetry, song, comedy, stories, belly-dancing and more.... Bring your party piece, let your hair down and go wild!

This is usually followed by dancing. If you'd like to contribute here, please bring your preferred music.
